About Specialisms Interests

For me, our voice is one of the most powerful tools we have. It can change how we are perceived, shape how a message lands, and give us the confidence to take up space in a room. The exciting thing is that, with the right tools and a little practice, we can all learn to use it more effectively.

I help clients feel more confident and in control of how they communicate. My aim is for the coaching experience to feel warm, supportive and unintimidating. My approach is rooted in my training as an actor, where I learnt to treat voice, speech and physicality as practical, adaptable skills. I spent many years putting that training into practice as a performer and voice artist, before pursuing my love of voice and accents through a Masters in Voice Studies at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama.

That experience informs how I help clients tackle very real communication challenges, whether that’s speaking with confidence, finding greater physical and vocal presence or being more easily understood. I have worked with clients ranging from senior professionals, barristers and academics to actors and entrepreneurs. My work is defined by a passion for demystifying communication skills, and the Serlin Method at LSW does exactly that.

Through the tools offered at LSW, I can help you understand your own voice, explore what it can do and make choices that feel natural, purposeful and bespoke to you. For me, good coaching is about giving you greater control and a wider range of options, so that you can choose how you want to communicate rather than feeling at the mercy of nerves or ingrained habits.

I also believe the process should be enjoyable! Learning to communicate with greater clarity, confidence and impact doesn’t have to feel daunting. With the right support, guidance and focus, you can achieve the meaningful change that will empower you as a communicator. I would be delighted to help you get there.

What is your favourite memory as a coach?

One of my favourite coaching experiences was working with a client who had developed some quite strong self-limiting beliefs around their communication. Seeing them begin to let go of the things they had previously judged themselves harshly for, and instead focus on the positive changes that could strengthen their message, was incredibly rewarding. Facilitating that shift in mindset, and seeing the impact it had on their confidence, was a profound experience for both of us.

What was your own biggest communication hurdle?

For me, it was learning to translate the confidence I had when communicating as a character on stage into my own voice as an individual. As an introvert, I’ve had to consciously work on my own communication skills, despite having spent much of my career performing in front of an audience. That experience has shown me first-hand that being a confident communicator is a skill that can be developed, and that it doesn’t have to come at the expense of authenticity.

Who is a speaker or storyteller you deeply admire?

The comedian and storyteller Daniel Kitson, who crafts compelling narratives whilst embracing his idiosyncrasies and personal foibles. The presenter and activist Katie Piper, whose resilience and spirit shine through when she speaks.

Describe your perfect Sunday…

I’d start with a cup of tea in a quiet spot listening to the birds, and then enjoy a big, noisy breakfast with my family. Later on I would take a long walk in nature, followed by a good Sunday roast at the pub (extra Yorkshires, please!) and finish the day at the theatre. Bliss!
